My upload failed or my file is in review
A failed upload can be retried after you delete any stuck file. A file in review is a program or script waiting for a person to check it.
If your upload failed
- Open your product and go to What buyers get.
- Reload the page.
- If the file is still listed with an uploading label, press its trash button to delete it.
- Upload it again and keep the tab open until it says Ready. Your browser does the upload, so closing the tab stops it.
A stuck file blocks you with "Wait for uploads to finish" until you delete it. Waiting won't clear it.
What the messages mean:
- "Network hiccup while uploading. Please retry." Your connection dropped. We try each piece three times before giving up.
- "The upload was incomplete. Please try again." Part of it didn't arrive, so we discarded it.
- "This version is already released." Released versions are locked. Start a new version.
If your file says In review
Your upload worked. We hold some files until a person has checked them, because they can run on a buyer's computer.
We hold a file if its name ends in .exe, .msi, .bat, .cmd, .com, .scr, .ps1, .vbs, .js, .jar, .app, .dmg, .pkg, .sh, .apk, .deb or .rpm, or if its contents look like a program or script. Renaming doesn't change that.
You'll see In review while uploading, then a scanning label with the reason. Despite that word, this isn't a virus scan. Dockstall doesn't run antivirus on uploads, and you're responsible for what you sell. See what you can and can't sell.
What it blocks
- First publish. A product whose only files are in review can't be published, and you'll see "Upload at least one file." If at least one other file is ready, you can publish.
- Downloads. Buyers see Being reviewed next to that file and can't download it yet.
- Updates. You can still release a new version containing a held file. Buyers keep their earlier versions.
How long it takes
We can't give you a time, and we don't send an email when it's done. To check, reload your product page. When the scanning label has gone, the file is available.
If you've been waiting a while or have a launch coming, contact us with your product name and the file name.
Don't plan a launch around a held file until it's cleared. Upload early.
