Withdraw a version

Before you start

If you're withdrawing your only version, release a replacement first if you can. Read why below.

Withdraw it

1. Go to Products and open your product.
2. Open What buyers get.
3. Find the version and press Withdraw….
4. Fill in Reason (shown in the audit log), at least 5 characters.
5. Press Withdraw version.

You can't undo this. There's no way to bring a withdrawn version back, though you can upload the same files again as a new version.

What happens next

• The version disappears from every buyer's order page, and its files can't be downloaded.
• It stays in your list with a withdrawn label.
• Buyers keep any other versions.
• Copies already downloaded can't be taken back. Nobody can do that.

What it doesn't do

• It doesn't tell buyers. They get no email, and they never see your reason, which is only for the log. If they should know, write to them yourself. Their addresses are in Orders.
• It doesn't refund anyone. Refunds are your decision and a separate step. See refund an order.
• It doesn't erase the files. They're just no longer available to anyone. If a file has to be erased, for example because of a legal request, contact us.

If it was your only version

The product stops selling on its own, so nobody can pay for something you can't deliver. Your product page shows Not on sale until you release another version.

Past buyers have nothing to download until then. Their order page says the seller hasn't attached files yet and that they'll get an email when you do. That email only goes out if you leave the switch on when you release the next version. See tell your buyers.

When to use something else

• A file has a small mistake. Release a new version and keep the old one.
• You want to stop selling. Hide or archive the product. Past buyers keep their access.
• The version isn't released yet. Just delete the file with its trash button.
