Limit how many copies you sell
Set Limit total copies for the whole product or Copies available for one version, and it shows as sold out once they're gone.
For the whole product
- Go to Products and open your product.
- Open Copies & page link.
- Enter a number in Limit total copies. Leave it empty for unlimited.
It saves by itself.
For one version
- Open Price & versions and press Edit on the version.
- Enter a number in Copies available.
- Press Save version.
If you set both, both apply. The product sells out when either limit is reached.
What buyers see
- The product page shows "Only N left" when the whole product has a limit.
- The tile on your store shows "N left" once there are 25 or fewer.
- At zero, they see Sold out, and a version that's run out can't be selected.
The counts on your side are in Price & versions, shown as sold of the total.
What counts as a copy
- A sale counts, not a download. Buyers can download as often as usual.
- Free claims count too. A repeat claim from the same email doesn't use another copy.
- An open checkout holds a copy for 35 minutes. It stops others taking that copy while someone is paying. If they give up, it comes back when the hold ends. This is why "Only 1 left" can still tell a visitor that it's sold out.
- A refund doesn't give a copy back. If you refund a sale and want to sell that copy again, raise the limit by one.
Changing the limit
You can raise, lower or remove a limit at any time. If you lower it to what you've already sold or less, the product simply becomes sold out. People who already bought keep their access.
Common problems
- It's sold out but I see fewer sales than the limit. Someone may be in checkout, holding a copy. Wait for the hold to end.
- A refund didn't free a copy. That's expected. Raise the limit by one.
