File types and size limits
Each file can be up to 2 GB and any type. Programs and scripts are held for a manual review, and images for covers can be up to 8 MB.
Files you sell
- Size: up to 2 GB per file.
- Type: any file type is accepted.
- Number of files: there's no set limit per product today, and you can upload several at once.
- Storage: there's no set total limit today.
- Uploads: up to 200 started per hour.
Some types are held for a manual review before buyers can download them: mainly programs, installers and scripts, such as .exe, .dmg, .apk, .sh and .js.
Images
Covers, gallery images and other images on your store can be up to 8 MB each, in PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or AVIF. Gallery videos can be up to 200 MB each, in MP4 or WebM.
Downloads
- Buyers always download files. They don't open inside the browser, even PDFs.
- Each purchase can have up to 60 downloads per hour. Buyers can download again later, so it's only there to stop abuse.
- Videos and audio are downloads too. There's no streaming or player.
If your file is over 2 GB
Dockstall can't take it as one file. Your options:
- Split it into smaller parts and upload each one. Tell buyers how to put them together.
- Host it yourself and sell access with a link product, or deliver files and a link together.
What isn't provided
- No streaming. For a video course, sell access to wherever you host it with a link product.
- No licence keys. Dockstall doesn't generate them.
- No copy protection. Once downloaded, a file can be passed on. See how files and links reach buyers.
Common problems
- "Files can be up to 2 GB." See above.
- "Empty file." The file has no content. Check the original.
- Uploads start failing after a very big batch. You may have reached the limit of 200 per hour. Wait a while and try again.
- File names look a bit different. We remove a few special characters, like
?and*, and shorten very long names, so that they download safely.
For anything else that goes wrong during an upload, see my upload failed or my file is in review.
