Help center / Stripe and getting paid
Why do you ask who's selling?
Buyers have to know who they're buying from before they pay. Say whether you have a VAT number, fill in your details, and your store can take payments.
The law says buyers have to know who they're buying from before they pay. Until you've filled this in, paid products and payment links are on hold. Your store, your projects and your free products keep working, and need none of this.
Where to fill it in
In Payouts, before connecting Stripe. You can change it later in Settings.
What buyers see
- With a VAT number: your name or company name, address, VAT number and support email, plus your company register number and phone if you add them. The law asks for this even if the address is your home.
- Without a VAT number: your name, country and support email. Your address and tax code stay private.
These details appear on your store, at checkout and in the buyer's receipt.
Do I need a VAT number to sell?
You can take payments without one, with your tax code or tax number. Whether the law requires one for your selling depends on your country and on how you sell, and working that out is up to you. In Italy, for example, regular selling needs one. If in doubt, ask an accountant: this is general information, not advice.
You also have to declare what you earn. Dockstall doesn't do that for you, and you confirm this when you save your details.
Invoices
Invoice requests need a VAT number, because only a seller with one can issue them. Your sales export is there either way.
If you get a VAT number later
Update your details in Settings. The Terms of Service set out what you're responsible for.
