Why analytics and Stripe show different numbers

Dockstall counts what buyers paid on its orders, minus refunds, and Stripe counts the real money on your account, so the two rarely match exactly. For money, trust Stripe.

For money, your Stripe dashboard is the record. The payments happen on your own Stripe account. Dockstall's Analytics is a view of your orders, useful for seeing what sells.

Why they differ

  • Fees. Revenue in Analytics is what buyers paid minus refunds. It doesn't take off Stripe's fee or Dockstall's. Stripe's figures can show what's left after them.
  • Refund dates. Analytics lowers revenue on the day of the original order. Stripe records a refund when it happens.
  • Lost disputes. A lost dispute isn't removed from Analytics revenue. Your Stripe dashboard shows the outcome of the dispute, and the order itself shows Dispute lost.
  • Time zones. Analytics days follow UTC. Your Stripe dashboard may use another time zone, so sales near midnight can land on different days.
  • Other payments. Anything charged on that Stripe account outside Dockstall appears only in Stripe.
  • Free orders. Free orders, including 100% coupons, count in Orders in Analytics. They never reach Stripe.
  • Payouts. Stripe's payouts group money on Stripe's own schedule, so they won't line up with daily sales. See when you get paid.
  • Timing. A refund or dispute shows in Dockstall once Stripe has told us about it.

The fee figure

Platform fees paid shows the Dockstall fee charged on orders in the period. If a refund returned the fee, that doesn't reduce this figure, so it can be higher than what you finally paid. Your Stripe dashboard is the place to check final amounts.

How to check one order

  1. Open the order under Orders.
  2. Compare Charged to buyer and Dockstall fee with the same payment in Stripe.
  3. Use the payment reference under References to find it.

If one order doesn't match after a while, and it isn't one of the cases above, write to us with the order number.

Who to ask

  • About balances, fees taken by Stripe and payouts: Stripe, through your Stripe dashboard. We can't change those.
  • About what Dockstall shows: us.
  • For your accounts and taxes: your own accountant. These numbers aren't tax records, and Analytics has no export.
