Create a coupon
Open Coupons, press New coupon, set a code and a discount, and share the code. Buyers enter it at checkout, and the discount comes out of your price.
Create it
- Open Coupons and press New coupon.
- Type a Code: 3 to 32 letters, numbers, dashes or underscores. Buyers can type it in upper or lower case.
- Under Discount, choose Percent (1 to 100) or Fixed €.
- Optional: set Max redemptions and Expires on. A code expires at the end of that day, UTC.
- Optional: switch on Once per buyer email.
- Under Applies to, tick products. If you tick none, the code works on all your products, including ones you add later.
- Press Create coupon. The code works straight away.
How buyers use it
At checkout they press Have a discount code? and type it. The total on that page doesn't change. They see the lower price on Stripe's page. A code that doesn't work shows an error before they leave checkout.
Rules worth knowing
- One code per order. Codes don't stack.
- Coupons work on paid products and options. They don't work on payment links.
- A 100% code, or a fixed amount at or above the price, makes the order free. It skips Stripe and has no fee.
- A discount that would leave between €0.01 and €0.49 is reduced so the buyer pays €0.50.
- An open checkout holds one use until it finishes or expires, so a code can look used up for a short time.
- A refund doesn't give a use back.
Who pays
The discount happens in Dockstall and comes out of your price. Dockstall's fee is charged on what the buyer actually paid. On a €20 product with 25% off, the buyer pays €15, and our fee is €0.75 on Free or €0.15 on Pro. Stripe charges its own fee on your Stripe account.
What you can't do
- Edit or delete a coupon. You can only Pause and Resume. To change one, pause it and create another with a new code. You can't reuse a code you already created, even if that coupon is paused.
- Set a start date. Create the coupon on the day you want it to start.
