Update emails and unsubscribes

When you release a new version you can email past buyers about it once, and any buyer can stop your update emails from a link in the email.

Send an update email

  1. Open the product and go to What buyers get.
  2. Press Start an update and upload the new files.
  3. Add Release notes if you want. These go in the email.
  4. Leave Email N past buyers switched on.
  5. Press the release button. It shows your version, like Release v1.1.

You'll see how many buyers will be notified. The emails go out gradually, so they may not all arrive at once.

The limits

  • One per product per day. If you already sent one today, the version still goes out, but with no email.
  • Once per release, at release time. If the switch was off or the daily limit stopped it, you can't send it later. Plan your releases with this in mind.
  • Published products only. A product moved back to draft sends nothing.
  • Buyers with active access only. Fully refunded buyers and those who lost a dispute are left out.

Buyers who don't get the email still find the new version on their order page.

What the buyer receives

The email has your name, the version, up to 1,500 characters of your notes and a Get the update button. The link in it lasts 14 days. It is in your store's language, and replies go to your support email.

Unsubscribes

Each update email ends with "Stop update emails from this seller". Once a buyer uses it, they get no more update emails from you, for any of your products. They keep their purchases and still receive receipts.

  • The number on the Email N past buyers switch counts buyers with active access, so it can be higher than the emails actually sent.
  • The dashboard has no list of who unsubscribed, and no way to add someone back.

This isn't a newsletter

These emails announce a new version of something the buyer already owns. Dockstall has no newsletter or mailing list tool. Our terms say not to add buyers to marketing lists without their consent. What the law asks of you is your responsibility, and we can't advise you on it.
