Paid once or many times: which to choose
Choose Once for one client and one job. Choose Many times for a fixed price that several people can pay, such as a session.
Choose Once if
You agreed a piece of work with one person. For example, a €450 logo for one client.
- The link closes as soon as it's paid. Anyone who opens it after that sees Already paid.
- Only one checkout can be open at a time. If someone else tries while one is open, they're asked to try again in about 30 minutes. The same person just goes back to their checkout.
- In the rare case that a second payment still gets through, it's refunded automatically. See a one-time link was paid twice.
- A paid link stays closed, even if you refund it. If the client needs to pay again, create a new link.
Choose Many times if
Several people will pay the same amount for the same thing. For example, a €60 consulting session you offer regularly.
- The link stays open until you press Disable or it reaches Expires on.
- There's no limit on how many times it can be paid, so nothing stops it at a set number of people.
- Each payment is its own order, with its own receipt.
- The same person can pay twice, and that second payment won't be refunded automatically. If it was a mistake, refund it yourself.
Pairing it with the other settings
- Only for this email limits who can pay. Anyone else gets an error. With Many times, that one person can pay repeatedly, which suits a client you bill for each session.
- Expires on closes the link after that day, on either setting.
Changing your mind
You can't switch a link between the two after you've created it. Press Disable on the old link and create a new one.
If you're selling a file or a download
Neither one is the best fit. Payment links deliver nothing through Dockstall, so you'd have to send the file yourself. A product delivers it automatically, and it can have a limited number of copies.
Who pays what
It's the same either way. Your client pays on Stripe's page, into your own Stripe account. On every payment, you bear Stripe's processing fee and Dockstall's fee: 5% on Free, 1% on Pro.
